Co-founded in 1989 by Fr. Paul Scalia, son of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, The Fenwick Review is Holy Cross’ preeminent, independent journal of opinion. We take pride in promoting intellectual freedom on campus by defending Catholic principles and conservative ideas.
The Fenwick Review takes its name from Bishop Fenwick, the founder of the College of the Holy Cross. Out of respect for God and Bishop Fenwick’s courage to establish Holy Cross amidst anti-Catholic sentiment, we place the teachings of the Church first. Our authentic desire to bring Truth, reason, and intellectual freedom to the College guides every article written in our pages.
QUOD VERUM PULCHRUM
Our motto, in Latin, means “what is true is beautiful.” For a fuller explanation of what this means, read Editor Emeritus ‘16 Stephen Merola’s article on the subject:
OUR MISSION
“As the College of the Holy Cross’ independent journal of opinion, The Fenwick Review strives to promote intellectual freedom and progress on campus. The staff of The Fenwick Review takes pride in defending traditional Catholic principles and conservative ideas, and endeavors to articulate thoughtful alternatives to the dominant campus ethos. Because our staff values Holy Cross seriously, we desire to strengthen and renew the College’s Catholic identity, encourage constructive dialogue, and foster new ideas.”
